Cheong-san’s potential role in All of Us Are Dead season 2 might benefit from how long is taking for the Netflix K-drama to return. All of Us Are Dead season 2 was announced in 2022 but has yet to be given a release date. It was recently reported that the second season won’t start filming until 2025, meaning that almost four years or more might have passed by the time the zombie K-drama returns. Although this is disappointing in many ways, it could make Cheong-san’s story better.

All of Us Are Dead made some big changes to the source material, from the title of the series to what happens to Nam-ra at the end. The biggest of them, however, is continuing the story past the destruction of the school. All of Us Are Dead season 2 will not have the webtoon to follow, which makes it difficult to predict when and how Cheong-san returns – assuming that he does.

Cheong-san’s Potential Return From The Dead Should Feel Earned

If there is one good thing about the long wait for All of Us Are Dead 2 is that the all-but-confirmed return of Cheong-san will be more meaningful. Ever since Yoon Chan-young was included in the All of Us Are Dead 2 announced video, it became clear that Cheong-wan was most likely going to return in the second season. The first season of All of Us Are Dead ended with Cheong-san staying behind to fight Gwi-nam and protect his friends, during which he was bitten on the arm. Both Cheong-san and Gwi-nam fell from the building as it was bombarded.

Between the bombing of Hyosan and On-jo finding her name tag covered in ashes, Cheong-san’s death looked pretty definitive. However, assuming that Yoon Chan-young will reprise his role in season 2, All of Us Are Dead would be risking making Cheong-san’s sacrifice less impactful. It would be very anticlimactic if Cheong-san was back so soon after choosing to die for his friends. That said, given how long All of Us Are Dead is taking, whenever Cheong-san returns, it will be as if a lot of time has passed – at least from our perspective.

Cheong-san Shouldn’t Come Back Too Fast After His Season 1 Sacrifice

While Cheong-san’s eventual return will be more than three years from the perspective of the audience, this may not be the case from the perspective of the All of Us Are Dead characters. If season 2 picks up right where the first season left off and brings back Cheong-san eventually, his sacrifice in the first season will still be hurt. Part of what made All of Us Are Dead season 1 such a good horror K-drama is how high the stakes were. No character was safe, and we had to say goodbye to a lot of great ones.

However, if Cheong-san easily returns from a certain death scenario only a few months after choosing to sacrifice himself to stop Gwi-nam,

All of Us Are Dead risks lowering the stakes for the show. Cheong-san, On-jo, Nam-ra, and Su-hyeok are the protagonist of All of Us Are Dead, so we already are led to believe that these four will survive whatever situation they encounter. Making Cheong-san’s return more bittersweet than expected may be the key to bringing him back while honoring the end of season 1 and keeping the stakes high.

All of Us Are Dead season 1 was great and spawned a dedicated fanbase all over the world. However, with the show taking more than three years to return, All of Us Are Dead 2 will have to be even more special to make up for such a long wait. It has been reported that the reason why All of Us Are Dead season 2 moved production to 2025 is to ensure better quality, which is reassuring. The zombie K-drama’s first season had a noticeably high production quality and strong visual effects.

The bar is high for All of Us Are Dead season 2 not only because of how long is taking but also because of how well the first season was received. Additionally, while All of Us Are Dead is a K-drama based on the webtoon, the first season already covered most of the source material. Cheong-san’s potential is one of many things All of Us Are Dead must get right in the second season, which will hopefully live up to the expectations.
